The Department of Medicine and Life Sciences of Pompeu Fabra University combines the creation and transfer of knowledge through the seamless integration of research and teaching. Innovation in education and research excellence are the cornerstones of the Department’s efforts.

With research marked by the experimental and health sciences, the Department includes 35 research groups divided into eight distinct programmes: Cell and Molecular Biology, Molecular Medicine, Evolutionary Biology and Complex Systems, Biomedical Informatics, Genetics and Neurosciences, Systems Bioengineering and Public Health and Education in Health Sciences.

In addition to the research, the Department of Medicine and Life Sciences offers five master’s degrees, in Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology Industry, Clinical Analysis Laboratory, Public Health, Biomedical Research and Bioinformatics for Health Sciences and a PhD programme in Biomedicine that is highly international in terms of both students and teaching staff.

The MdM program has allowed our Department to strengthen its commitment with the research of excellence. Proofs of it are the increase in the number of high impact publications and the acquisition of international projects, including two ERC grants. In addition, a new Research Program in Bioengineering of Systems has been created through the recruiting of two PIs with international experience and an outstanding CV. Last but not least, the MdM has served as a springboard for implementing gender equality measures, and to promote responsible research and innovation and scientific communication and outreach.
