Introduction to the vacant position:

The Nanobioengineering Group is looking for a PhD Student for doing her/his thesis in the framework of a European project that aims at designing and manufacturing a miniaturized sensing device implantable in the blood vessel for monitoring the health status of patients. The micro-sensor-system would implement a body-embedded system with multiple sensing capabilities, targeting hemodynamic and biochemical parameters, once implanted into blood vessels (vein and/or arterial blood vessels) of vulnerable patients with cardiovascular diseases. For this purpose electrochemical aptamer beacon in a reagentless and label free configuration will be developed.

Main tasks and responsibilities:

– Surface functionalization

– Synthesis of polymers

– DNA functionalization

– Optical surface characterisation

– Electrochemical techniques; voltammetry, impedance, potentiometry

– Microfabrication of electrodes

Requirements for candidates:

Essential:

• BS in chemistry or similar.

• MSc in chemistry, nanotechnology, biotechnology or similar.

• High motivation for translational and multidisciplinary research.

• knowledge of synthesis

• Competencies and skills: Communication, Teamwork, Proactivity, Commitment, Collegiality, Integrity, Critical and Analytical thinking.

• High level of English.

Advantageous:

• Experience in biosensors

• Experience on wet chemical methods for polymeric synthesis.

• Experience in electrochemistry

• Experience on electrodes microfabrication.
