The Institute

The Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) is an international biomedical research institute of excellence, based in Barcelona, Spain, with more than 400 scientists from 44 countries. The CRG is composed by an interdisciplinary, motivated and creative scientific team which is supported both by a flexible and efficient administration and by high-end and innovative technologies.
In April 2021, the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) received the renewal of the 'HR Excellence in Research' Award from the European Commission. This is a recognition of the Institute's commitment to developing an HR Strategy for Researchers, designed to bring the practices and procedures in line with the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers (Charter and Code).

The role

We are looking for an enthusiastic Grants Specialist to join the CRG Strategy and Funding (SaF) department.

The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic team that works closely with the CRG scientific community, to scout, disseminate and secure competitive funding to support their research and innovation activities. Therefore, they will help ensure proper grant planning of the CRG research and technological groups and the preparation of high-quality grant proposals.

The position focuses on the pre-award management of competitive opportunities and calls for research projects from public and private funders, in liaison with the rest of the SaF team and the other research support services involved in the management of funds.

The main responsibilities include:

• Identifying external funding sources and opportunities, especially international ones, and sharing this information with CRG scientific and technological groups, while offering proactive and tailored guidance.
• Providing professional guidance and support in preparing research and innovation grant proposals to competitive calls from funders.
• Leading the acceptance process, in liaison with the relevant departments involved in the administrative, financial and legal internal review of grants and hand-over for their subsequent management.
• Participate in the SaF transversal activities (i.e., collaborations and institutional initiatives, ethics and science policy, etc.).

Occasional travelling is required locally and abroad.







About the team/ lab/ department

The SaF Department focuses on fostering excellence at the CRG by creating new opportunities in projects and collaborations for the scientific community. The team provides strategic advice and support to the Director; fosters and coordinates institutional projects and collaborations; supports the CRG community in securing competitive funds for research and institute-related activities; provides comprehensive support in the preparation and submission of proposals and in grant acceptance process and acts as a liaison with the funding agencies or sponsors/donors.

Whom would we like to hire?

Professional experience

Must Have
• You have a minimum 3-year experience in a similar position
• You have proven experience in managing grant applications and scouting of international
opportunities for sponsored research projects

Desirable but not required/ Nice to have
• You have previous experience in a life-science environment
• You have specific experience in preparing and assembling collaborative proposals to public
and private funders and managing proposals to national/international philanthropy foundations

Education and training
• You hold a university degree. A degree in Life Sciences or related fields may be an advantage

Languages
• You are fluent in English and Spanish
• Knowledge of Catalan would be a plus

Technical skills
• You are an advanced user of MS Office (MS Word, Excel and Power Point)

• Estimated annual gross salary: Salary is commensurate with the qualifications of the candidates and the senior profile of the position and is consistent with our pay scales

Selection Process

₋ Pre-selection: The pre-selection process will be based on qualifications and expertise reflected on the candidates CVS. It will be merit-based.

₋ Interview: Preselected candidates will be interviewed by the Hiring Manager of the position and a selection panel if required.

₋ Offer Letter: Once the successful candidate is identified the People department will send a Job Offer, specifying the start day, salary, working conditions, among other important details.
